How To Reshape Your Bolga Basket

HOW TO RESHAPE YOUR BOLGA BASKET

Explore this easy 3 steps tutorial on how to restore the shape of your handwoven Bolga Basket to its original beauty.

About our Bolga Baskets

Handcrafted by skilled weavers in northern Ghana, each basket undergoes a meticulous 3 to 10-day process of twisting, dyeing, and weaving. The result is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, reflecting the artisan's personal touch and celebrating Ghana's rich cultural heritage.

What makes Bolga Baskets truly special is the unique veta vera grass. Grown along Ghana's riversides, this fiber softens when wet, becoming flexible enough for artisans to shape into intricate designs. This craftsmanship, paired with natural materials, creates a beautiful blend of tradition, artistry, and skill, making these baskets exclusively Ghanaian.

NOTE: Due to shipping, you might find the basket you ordered slightly flattened. No worries, though – reshaping your basket is quick and easy.

Ready to witness your basket's transformation?

With this simple technique, your Bolga Basket will regain its distinctive shape, showcasing the craftsmanship and dedication that went into its creation.

You will only need:

  • A bucket of water (or a sink)

  • Your crafty hands

Follow these steps:

1. Push out the flattened areas to help the basket regain its original shape.

2. Lightly dampen the affected areas inside and out with water.

3. Gently reshape the basket with your hands, molding it back to its natural form.

Once finished, put it to dry in an airy place avoiding direct sunlight.

Pro-tip: Stuff the basket with newspaper or kraft paper to help it hold its shape while drying.

Taking care of your basket

While veta vera grass is highly durable, regular care will extend the life of your basket. Use a normal brush for cleaning, and avoid exposure to humidity, direct sunlight, and dust.
