Barcelona Pop Up

A few weeks ago we had the chance to celebrate Ghanaian craft and culture with part of our friends and family in Barcelona. Three days of meeting people, discussing about craft, processes, and stories, share thoughts and big laughs.

We spent our weekend in the heart of Barcelona. In an old building that used to be a printing shop, now used as a creative workshop space, with white worn-out walls and big roofing windows. If someone ever asked us what could an Aketekete Store could look like, it could really be something like this. It was such a pleasure to share the beautiful and charming space from @stephaniebarbieatelier with our community, as this made the event a really unique experience.

Stephanié Barbié is a friend of ours since a year ago when Aketekete’s co-founder, Maria Bernat Astorga, met her and fell in love with her work. Stephanié is a jewelry maker and designer living in Barcelona. She creates highly detailed wearable jewelry and kinetic-inspired mobiles made of brass and recycled paper from old books.

She believes in slow processes, made-by-hand products and small batches of unique pieces. We had a natural connection from the start and she opened up to our brand with big arms.

It was an idyllic weekend with lots of laughs, sharing thoughts and life experiences. We met different people from different backgrounds, contexts and cultures. Had some fun and dreamed about some future partnerships.

We would like to send a big thank you to Stephanié for hosting us in your lovely space that made us feel at home.

And also a big thank you to our beautiful and enriching community of people who support us and push us to be our best, The people who believe in what we do and inspire us every day.

Love,

The Aketekete Team
